Price and payment
How much does a new water heater and a whole-home water filter cost in Northern Virginia?
With SwiftPro, a 50 gallon water heater and a whole-home water filter run $4,848 to $10,585 installed, or $81 to $176 a month at 0% APR for 60 months on approved credit, depending on the heater and the filter. The lowest is a 50 gallon electric tank with the Watts OneFlow+.
Do I save money buying them together?
You get one order, one crew and one price, but there's no extra bundle discount, and we won't pretend there is. Each price is what we charge for that item alone, added up. The $500 off the water heater is already in it, for the old unit we take out.
What's included in the price?
The water heater, the whole-home system, the install by our own licensed plumbers, the permit, an expansion tank, a drain pan and hauling the old water heater away. A gas line, venting or electrical upgrade, if your home needs one, gets quoted before we start.
Which water heater warranty do I get?
The prices in the table are A.O. Smith tanks with a 6 year warranty. The same tank with 10 years is $575 more on those three. If you plan to stay in the house, 10 years is the one we'd pick.
Do I have to pay online?
No. Send your order and we call to confirm the details and set a time. Want your install held? Reserve it for $100 by card: it's refundable for any reason until we install, and it comes off your final price.
Can I finance the bundle?
Yes, on approved credit. From about $81 a month at 0% APR for 60 months, the whole price financed, on approved credit. The order page shows the monthly figure for whatever you pick.
Your water and your system
Is the water hard in Northern Virginia?
Often, yes. Five of the six public water utilities here that print a hardness figure reach 7 grains per gallon or more, where water counts as hard, and the same utility can swing a lot through the year. Fairfax Water ran 3 to 10.8 grains per gallon in 2025. The City of Manassas is the lowest, at 2.7. Well water varies house to house, so test it at your tap.
Why put in a water filter when I replace my water heater?
Your water heater is fed by the main line, so a whole-home system where the water comes in treats what goes into the new tank too. Hard water leaves the crust inside a water heater, and a water softener takes that hardness out. It's also the one time a plumber is already in that part of your house working on those pipes.
Do I need a water filter or a water softener?
It depends on what you're fixing. Scale on faucets, spots on glasses and a water heater full of sediment point to hardness, which a water softener fixes. A chlorine taste or smell points to carbon filtration. The dissolved contaminants on your utility's report, like chromium-6 and nitrate, take Reverse Osmosis (RO). If you're not sure, start with the $29 water test: a licensed plumber tests your water's hardness at your kitchen table, and it comes off a water treatment install if you go ahead.
Can I add the whole-home filter later?
Yes. It goes where the water comes into the house, not on the water heater, so it can go in any time. There's no bundle discount to lose by waiting. Doing both together is one order and one crew instead of two jobs.
What upkeep does a whole-home system need?
A water softener needs salt added to its tank. Filter cartridges, and the filters in a Reverse Osmosis (RO) system, get changed on the schedule in the unit's spec sheet. A filter on a bypass loop keeps the water on in the house while its cartridge is changed, and our sticker on the housing has the number to call.
I'm on a well. Does this still work?
Start with the test at your tap. The ZIP report covers public water utilities, and a private well gets no routine testing unless the owner does it. Our plumbers also repair and replace well pumps and pressure tanks.
